Brakes Fail, Dump Truck Driver Avoids Cars in New York

Avon, N.Y. (WHAM)—A driver was injured after the dump truck he was driving crashed into a tree and fence Friday afternoon in Livingston County.
Around 2:15 p.m., officers responded to West Main Street in Avon for a report of a dump crash near a home. Ring video shows the truck avoided other vehicles when it went off the road and crashed into the tree. Several other drivers got out of their vehicles and came to the truck driver's aid.

“People literally abandoned their cars right in the road, and I think that’s an awesome thing to see,” said Crystal Harrison of Avon. In a video from the scene, the driver could be heard explaining his split-second decision after losing his brakes. “I just had an accident, man,” he said. “I had to run into a tree to keep from hitting those cars.”
His quick decision likely avoided further disaster.
The driver was ticketed.
