Dump Truck Crashes into Home, Killing One in New York

Two trucks collide with one crashing into the house and igniting a fire.

Isabell Erwin, 89, was killed when a dump truck crashed into her house, sparking a fire.

Two dump trucks—each carrying approximately 20 tons of asphalt—were traveling on Harter Road in Sparta, New York, where they collided with each other after both vehicles failed to stop in time, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Office. One of them slammed into the house on Culbertson Road, sparking the fire.

According to a report on WHAM (above), family members said the woman's son, who was also home at the time in a different part of the house, couldn't get to her after the crash.

The report said "a mechanical issue" with one of the trucks, citing the Sheriff's Office, caused it to lose its brakes and collide with the other truck.
