Excavator Hits Traffic Lights

A Caterpillar excavator being towed by a large flatbed trailer hit traffic lights in Winslow, Maine, closing the road to traffic for several hours. 

According to a report by centralmaine.com, the incident occurred at the intersection of China Road and Bay Street at about 11:30 a.m. Traffic was delayed for more than two hours as crews from the Winslow police and fire departments and Central Maine Power worked at the scene. 

Photographs published in the report showed the tractor-trailer stopped in the middle of the intersection, with telephone wires, electrical cables and traffic lights tangled around the arm of the excavator.

No one was injured in the crash.

The exact cause of the crash remains unclear, according to the report. The truck’s operator had filled out the necessary paperwork on the vehicle’s height and route.

The intersection was reopened to traffic just before 2 p.m. Wednesday.
