Excavator Hits Bridge, Closes Road

Feb. 18, 2022

An excavator being transported on a trailer hit an overpass on US-23 in Michigan hard enough to send concrete flying, and knock the machine off the trailer.

According to news reports, concrete from the bridge hit two other vehicles, sending one person to the hospital and puncturing the hood of a vehicle.

The damage to the bridge was significant enough to force the state to close all northbound lanes of US-23 for the weekend.

The damage was significant enough that the state demolished part of the overpass the following week, resulting in the closure of Warren Road.
