Video: Watch the Anderson HP35 Inspection Platform Go Over the Edge and Under the Bridge

The trailer-mounted inspection platform carries up to 1,000 pounds, deploys from either side, and moves while extended.

Key Highlights

  • The HP35 brings the workspace beneath the bridge. Its 35-foot platform carries up to 1,000 pounds of personnel and equipment.
  • Crews can reposition without repeating deployment. The hydraulic drive moves the disconnected trailer while the platform remains extended.
  • Watch the machine and meet the company. Brent Wagner’s walkthrough introduces the HP35 at Anderson’s new Chester rental and service facility.

Here’s a cool category of equipment with a different angle on access — underbridge inspection platforms. Not familiar? Underbridge inspection platforms are these trailer- or truck-mounted work platforms that deploy from a bridge deck, extending over the edge and then positioning the platform beneath the bridge. They give crews access for inspections, maintenance, new installation, whatever. Watch the video above to see one in action — the Anderson UnderBridge HP35.

“As you can see, the HP35 is a trailer-mounted unit,” says Brent Wagner, national rental sales manager at Anderson UnderBridge, in our video above. “The HP35 can be pulled with a dually Ford F-350 at minimum, which everybody seems to have in their fleet. Also, we deliver these machines and can deploy them for you. The machine doesn’t have to stay hooked up to your truck. If you can see the drive motor at the front, this unit can track on the job when it’s disconnected from the hauler truck.”

The HP35 is the subject of our latest video, and it has been a gateway for us into this unique category of equipment. Wagner walks us around the HP35 inspection platform at the company’s new Chester, South Carolina, facility — now home to Anderson Crane and Bridge Technologies — a division that handles rental and service operations for Anderson UnderBridge. So, there’s also a bigger story here overall to tell. Let’s start with…

Who is Anderson UnderBridge?

Anderson UnderBridge builds and rents equipment that gives crews access beneath and alongside bridges and other structures. The company focuses mainly on two equipment categories — underbridge inspection platforms and articulated boom inspection trucks. Anderson UnderBridge is based in York, South Carolina, but like we mentioned, the company’s new Chester facility houses the rental and service division, Anderson Crane and Bridge Technologies. The company’s customers include contractors, engineering firms, DOTs, and beyond. Anderson also offers operator training, delivery, and services like traffic control. The company will even provide the trained operators needed to deploy and operate the equipment you rent, which is a good option as these are very specialized pieces of equipment, plus workers are working at height. Let’s meet the HP35 underbridge inspection platform

The HP35 is an impressive piece of hardware. The unit extends a 35-foot work platform beneath a structure and supports up to 1,000 pounds of personnel and equipment. It also travels while deployed, helping crews work along the bridge without repeating the entire setup. Watch the video for a closer look at its outriggers, controls, and hydraulic drive.

HP35 specifications at a glance

  • Extended platform length: 35 feet
  • Inside steel platform width: 37 inches
  • Maximum lowering depth: 17 feet, 5 inches
  • Platform capacity: 1,000 pounds overall, with a 500-pound capacity at the platform end
  • Maximum occupants: Five, within the applicable load limits
  • Platform rotation: 180 degrees
  • Hydraulic power: 19-horsepower gasoline engine with automatic idle
  • Operating hydraulic pressure: 2,800 psi
  • Transport dimensions: 8 feet, 4 inches wide, and 11 feet tall

In the video, Wagner shows the outriggers arranged for passenger-side deployment, but crews can shift that arrangement for driver-side work to suit (let’s say) traffic setup. Wagner puts deployment at less than 10 minutes. There are also options for operation. Operators can handle the machine’s functions from the main control panel at the rear, but there’s also a tethered handheld controller that lets the operator move closer to the bridge edge for a better view.

A new Chester base for rental support

The setting for our walkthrough has its own story. Anderson announced the new Chester home of Anderson Crane and Bridge Technologies in August. Big congrats from the CE team. Rental continues to be a dynamic sector, and we highly suggest you read our recent overview on mega projects in rental. Anderson Crane and Bridge Technologies will handle rental and service operations for Anderson UnderBridge. According to this website post, this Chester operational headquarters will support:

  • Rental fleet management and readiness
  • Preventive maintenance and inspections
  • Equipment repairs and warranty support
  • Refurbishment and rebuild programs
  • Pre-delivery inspections (PDI)
  • Parts staging and logistics
  • Mobile service dispatch
  • Technical training and operational support
  • Fleet storage and expansion

“This is more than a new location — it is the foundation for the next chapter of Anderson Crane and Bridge Technologies. As our rental business continues to grow, Chester will serve as the hub that enables us to scale our operations while maintaining the responsiveness, quality, and customer focus that define Anderson UnderBridge.”

This new facility accommodates a lot — refurbishment, pre-delivery inspections, technical training, impressive. Plus, there’s room for expansion. Combined, this is interesting news for our readers, the fleet masters, who need to qualify things like parts logistics, inspection, and training.

In summary, Anderson UnderBridge has caught our collective attention. The company makes cool, unique equipment, and the brand is in expansion mode with a focus on rental. Add this company to your mental Rolodex, and then watch Wagner’s walkthrough to see the HP35 platform up close.
