Oregon Bridge Budget Jumps 50%

The estimate for a bridge replacement in Portland, Oregon, has jumped from $4 billion to $6 billion, according to published reports.

The project is run by Interstate Bridge Replacement Program, which will include $1 billion in funding from both Oregon and Washington to replace the bridge. The cost increase is due design changes updated since the original bid in 2020, as well as the “rapid pace of inflation” and supply chain issues, according to the report.

The project manager intends to seek more funding from the Federal government for the project.
