Excavator Bucket in Road, Car Rolls Over

A crash on New York State Route 17 in the Johnson City area left debris scattered on the highway, WNBF News Radio reported, including “a large bucket from an excavator.

The accident was reported in the area of the 70S on-ramp/ 70N off-ramp. That’s in an area where the New York State Department of Transportation has been doing maintenance work during overnight hours on the Route 201 bridges over Route 17 and the flyover between Route 17 and the Susquehanna River.

Emergency Services officials say they believe the large bucket fell off a semi that had been traveling down the highway and a passenger vehicle either swerved to avoid the hazard or hit some of the debris, causing it to roll over.

A car reportedly involved in the crash was said to be on its roof, the station said. Police officials had not officially listed what may have caused the car to roll over or what caused the excavator bucket to end up in the road, .
