Backhoe thief intended to free his impounded dog, according to police.

Police officers shot out all four tires of a stolen backhoe loader as it was heading toward an animal shelter near Curlew, Washington.

According to a report in the Idaho State Journal, Clinton Caress was arrested for theft of the backhoe loader.

According to a Facebook post by the Ferry County Sheriff’s Office, Caress intended to drive the backhoe loader 30 miles to the shelter where his dog had been impounded, then damage or destroy it to free the dog. Sheriff’s deputies used a shotgun to shoot out the front tires, then shot out the rear tires when the machine did not slow down.
