A driver has been arrested after crashing into a work zone and injuring a construction worker near Spanaway on Tuesday morning.

The driver was southbound on state Route 7 at 188th Street when the car struck a traffic control trailer and a dump truck with a trailer, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper John Dattilo on X at 1:31 a.m.

“The traffic control trailer was launched forward and struck one of the workers,” he wrote.

The worker was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, Dattilo said.

The driver’s car burst into flames after the crash, Dattilo said. Bystanders pulled the driver out. The driver was taken to a local hospital.

The driver has been arrested on suspicion of DUI.
