CM Labs Adds Real-Project Simulation to Its Trimble Earthworks Training
We especially love two things around here — training and technology. When those two ideas come together, everybody usually wins. In that vein, here’s a cool update we noticed from CM Labs. The company has expanded its integration with Trimble Earthworks, adding project-specific mission planning and automation-assisted dozer training. The update gives contractors a way to practice real jobs before machines ever reach the dirt, bringing technology into new dimensions of training. From this press release:
“Improving safety is one of the most effective ways to protect project performance,” said Lisa Barbieri, VP of Marketing and Strategic Partnerships at CM Labs. “With construction site injuries accounting for 6 to 9 percent of total project costs, simulation-based training gives organizations a faster, more cost-effective way to improve operator preparedness and reduce exposure to risk. Through the Intellia Workforce Training System, CM Labs helps customers do that with purpose-built solutions designed to support safer, more productive heavy equipment operations.”
The idea here: As equipment becomes smarter, operators need realistic environments where they can safely learn before productivity and safety are on the line.
Training with the real job in mind
The biggest addition is Trimble Design File Import. Contractors can now load actual Trimble Earthworks design files into the CM Labs Intellia Workforce Training System. Instead of practicing on generic jobsites, operators train using layouts that closely match upcoming projects. That changes how organizations prepare crews. Operators can familiarize themselves with site layouts, grading plans, and production tasks before arriving on the jobsite. Contractors can also use the system to rehearse upcoming projects.
Trimble Earthworks Autos comes to dozers
CM Labs also expanded its Trimble Earthworks Autos integration beyond excavators. The company now supports Trimble Earthworks Autos inside its Intellia Dozer Simulation Curriculum. Operators can practice automation-assisted grading using workflows that mirror today’s machine-control systems. CM Labs already offered Trimble Earthworks Autos support for tracked excavator training.
CM Labs keeps expanding its training portfolio
This announcement continues a busy stretch for CM Labs. Earlier this year, the company introduced a demolition curriculum for tracked excavators. CM Labs also expanded its tracked excavator curriculum with advanced trenching exercises, trench box installation, unstable soil behavior, and AI-assisted instruction that can guide trainees through specific tasks. Those updates reflect the company’s broader push toward simulation that mirrors modern jobsites instead of simplified training scenarios. Late last year, CM Labs also strengthened its North American presence by acquiring GlobalSim, adding manufacturing capacity, and expanding its portfolio of simulation systems for industrial and port applications.
