More Affordable Tech: Trimble Tweaks Earthworks for Excavators to Cut Initial Cost

A new configuration will utilize two DA2 GNSS receivers to provide 3D for cost-sensitive customers.

Trimble is known for making its technology scalable and ensuring it can cascade down through various industries. Recent efforts on the earthmoving side have targeted smaller contractors with smaller fleets and compact equipment.

It has even offered smaller contractors a financial leg up.

Now, the tech company has announced a new configuration of the Trimble Earthworks grade control platform for excavators — utilizing dual DA2 GNSS receivers — that is designed specifically to meet the needs of cost-sensitive customers.

It is meant to lower the barrier to entry for machine control technology while providing a 3D positioning solution that helps operators work more efficiently and with high accuracy.

The new DA2 Earthworks configuration is targeted at small-to-mid-size contractors who are ready to take the next step into 3D workflows and take advantage of the efficiency gains that are unlocked by 3D grade control.

What to know about Trimble tech subscription models

The new configuration includes the Trimble ProPoint positioning engine, which is engineered to provide positioning accuracy even in challenging environments. It is available via a Trimble Works subscription, which includes Trimble WorksManager, further lowering upfront costs.

The introduction of the new Trimble Earthworks configuration also enables more customers in more regions to leverage the benefits of the Trimble ecosystem, which streamlines the flow of data between the field and the office and connects project stakeholders with accurate and up-to-date data for better overall decision making.

“The new Trimble Earthworks configuration provides an exceptional price-to-performance ratio for the machine control market,” said Cameron Clark, senior director, earthmoving solutions at Trimble.

“Other cost-competitive options tend to compromise on precision and reliability. We know that every minute of downtime or poor performance equals lost revenue for our customers, so we are pleased to announce a full 3D machine control solution available as a subscription that enables cost-sensitive customers to improve productivity and profitability," Clark said.

"This means our customers can adopt technology earlier, scale faster, and improve productivity across more machines.”

Trimble Earthworks with DA2 GNSS receivers will be available in mid-Q4 2026.
