Pickup Driver Dies in Work Zone Crash

Pennsylvania's I-83 was the scene of a tragedy this morning.

A pickup truck driver died Monday morning after a crash in a work zone involving two tractor-trailers on Interstate 83 in Newberry Township, Pennsylvania, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Troopers said the multi-vehicle crash happened just before 6 a.m. in the southbound lanes near mile marker 32.9.

PennDOT had been working in the area under a weekend project on 83 South between exits 33 and 32. The work zone was in the process of being cleared out when the crash occurred in the backlog of traffic.

Police said the pickup truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the tractor-trailer drivers were not injured. Authorities did not release the victim’s name or additional details about how the crash happened.

The York County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene. An investigation is underway.
