Komatsu PC238USLC-11 Excavator

Feb. 19, 2018

With a heavy counterweight mass and rounded cab, the Komatsu PC238USLC-11 hydraulic excavator is designed for tight-tail-swing performance.

The machine’s operator-station profile and sliding door allows the cab to swing within the same radius as the counterweight. Available for the PC238USLC-11 is Komatsu’s new KomVision system, which provides a “birds-eye-view” camera system that combines input from three cameras into a surround-view image of the machine and work site “to provide improved operator situational awareness.” Productivity is as much as 4 percent greater, compared with the previous model.

The PC238USLC-11 uses a 6.69-liter, Tier 4-F Komatsu SAA6D107E-3 engine rated at 167 net horsepower. Emissions controls include an exhaust-gas-recirculation system, Komatsu diesel particulate filter, and a selective catalyst reduction (SCR) system. The engine has a new temperature-controlled, viscous fan clutch designed to reduce parasitic loads, and an auto/idle engine-shut-down system helps reduce engine idle time.

An operator-identification system provides the Komtrax telematics system data to track operators, applications, and machine operation for up to 100 individual codes. The high-resolution, LCD color monitor panel incorporates the standard rearview camera display with gauges. “Ecology-Guidance” provides fuel-saving information for the operator.

The “ROPS- certified” cab design conforms to ISO 12117-2 and meets operator protective guard level 1 and ISO 10262 top-guard standards. Standard for the new model is a high-capacity, high-back, heated, air-ride seat. The selectable, auxiliary-hydraulic control option provides one-way and two-way attachment flow in the monitor panel, with adjustable flow control. To facilitate routine maintenance, the PC238USLC-11 provides same-side, ground-level access to the engine and filters, swing-out coolers, ground-level fueling, and ground-level DEF fill with sight glass.

The PC238USLC-11is covered by the Komatsu CARE program for the first three years or 2000 hours. Komatsu CARE includes scheduled factory maintenance, 50-point inspection at each service, two complimentary SCR maintenance services and DEF tank flushes in the first five years, and select labor, fluids, and filters covered by Komatsu during this period.
