Audit Finds Vermont Dams Lacking
Vermont State Auditor Doug Hoffer released an audit of Vermont’s Dam Safety Program, which is responsible for overseeing more than 1,000 known dams across Vermont.
The audit, as reported by Vermont Business, found that the 10 dams in poor condition that were selected for review, which included state-owned dams, lingered in poor condition, some for more than 18 years.
While the Dam Safety Program recommended that dam owners make needed improvements, suggested time frames were not provided to do so and follow-up didn’t occur until the next inspection of the dam, which in some cases was more than five years later.
