Vermont has kept the same grade on its ASCE report card grade, maintaining the “C” it received in 2021 with a “C” this year. The organization’s Vermont section gave the state’s infrastructure individual grades of B- for its bridges, C+ for its roads, and D+ for its wastewater infrastructure.
Nearly 20 civil engineers from across the state analyzed infrastructure to come up with the grades and determine what is needed to maintain and improve.
According to the report card, the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act (IIJA) is enabling the state to boost spending on bridges by 27 percent. The state has also decreased the number of bridges in poor condition from 5 percent to 2.4 percent over the past five years.
