Komatsu debuted an electric mini excavator at Bauma 2019 in Munich, Germany. Komatsu does not distribute compact equipment in North America.
According to the company, the excavator is equipped with a new charger and high-voltage converter. It also offers excavation performance on par with the internal combustion model of the same power output, while achieving zero exhaust emissions and lower noise levels.
When fully charged, the excavator is usable for six hours of operation. It also allows for quick charging to extend its available working hours.
Komatsu says the fully electric unit is a prototype under development in Japan. It is also testing the model at customer job sites, and commercial availability is expected “soon.”
