Bobcat is expanding its excavator lineup with the conventional-tail-swing E220, a 23.9-ton unit, and the reduced-tail-swing E245, a 25.8-ton model.

They are rated at 162 and 170 horsepower, respectively, and aimed at commercial and residential construction, roadwork, infrastructure, and more.

The E220 offers a digging depth of 21 feet 7 inches and the E245 digs to 21 feet 11 inches. Both models have a bucket digging force of 35,464 lb.-ft. Precision is amplified thanks to their fine swing feature, which allows the excavators’ upper structure to come to a smooth, gradual stop and reduce spillage on the job, the company says.

Equipped with Tier 4 engines, these excavators meet emissions compliance without needing a diesel particulate filter (DPF). This results in simpler maintenance and eliminates downtime caused by DPF regeneration. The excavators offer four selectable power modes for operators to set their performance for the demands of the job, whether that is efficient fuel consumption or all-out power for tough digging and heavy lifting:

  • Power+ mode: Top work group speed to load trucks in less time or sustain peak digging
performance when opening up hard ground
  • Power mode: Impressive power and performance for tough digging, quick loading and heavy lifting, and increased travel speed
  • Standard mode: Balanced performance and reduced fuel usage for routine digging, lifting and grading
  • Economy mode: Optimize fuel economy when power demands are lower or when doing
    precise digging and fine grading.

The excavators’ Smart Power Control will match load to engine RPM, hydraulic pump torque, and engine response, improving efficiency in any of the four power modes.
