Caterpillar Next Generation 1- to 2-ton Excavators

Four excavators in the 1- to 2-ton class have been upgraded to Next Generation: 301.5, 301.7 CR, 301.8, and 302 CR. CR indicates compact radius.

Operating weights range from 3,500 pounds to 4,900 pounds, depending on configuration. Maximum digging depth is 7 feet 8 inches or 8 feet 5 inches. Rubber tracks are standard with steel available as an option. The units are powered by a Cat C1.1 diesel with 21.6 gross horsepower.

Load-sensing hydraulic system has an electronically controlled variable displacement piston pump delivering up to 17.4 gpm. The standard auxiliary system provides one way, two way, and continuous flow.

Undercarriage retracts from 55.1 to 42.9 inches on the 302 CR; from 51.2  to 39 inches on the other models.

A pattern changer allows operators to select a control pattern, and a security system is standard. The LCD monitor has a jog dial to facilitate operator interaction. The Stick Steer system allows the operator to switch from lever/foot-pedal steering to left-hand joystick control.
