Genie’s GTH-1544 Pick-and-Carry Telehandler Offers a 15,000-lb Lift Capacity Without Stabilizers

The highest-capacity machine in Genie’s 44-foot family brings more carrying power, improved traction, and a productivity focus.

Key takeaways

  • Built for mobility. The Genie GTH-1544 is a pick-and-carry telehandler designed to move heavy loads without stabilizers.
  • 15,000 pounds of lifting power. The new model tops Genie’s 44-foot telehandler lineup with greater capacity at height and reach.
  • Focused on productivity. Frame leveling, limited-slip differentials, and enhanced visibility help keep materials moving on rough jobsites.

A few weeks ago, in our awesomely named Fork Yeah! telehandler guide, Genie helped explain an important distinction in the material handling world — pick-and-place versus pick-and-carry telehandlers. Pick-and-place machines excel at lifting loads high and precisely positioning them. Picture stocking lumber, drywall, and roofing materials to the upper floors of a multistory building. Pick-and-carry telehandlers prioritize mobility. These machines shuttle materials across large jobsites, moving loads from staging areas to crews without repeatedly deploying stabilizers. Now Genie has introduced a machine built specifically for that second mission: the new Genie GTH-1544 telehandler.

“The GTH-1544 leads its class in lifting capabilities without stabilizers," says Kyle Holdridge, Genie's global product director for telehandlers, via email. "It combines the heavy-lifting capabilities they're looking for, with the ability to do more, faster because they don't need to spend time deploying stabilizers.”

The GTH-1544 is the largest-capacity machine in Genie’s 44-foot telehandler family. With a maximum lift capacity of 15,000 pounds and a lift height of 44 feet, 7 inches, the new model targets infrastructure projects, industrial facilities, energy construction, steel erection, and other large jobsites where moving material efficiently often matters more than working at height.

The GTH-1544 is built for moving material

The GTH-1544 focuses on carrying heavier loads through the mid-working range. It often carries these loads while driving. Genie notes the machine’s open drive envelope, allowing operators to transport product without worrying about stabilizers getting in the way. The unit is also engineered for the extra cooling demands of pick-and-carry work.

"The GTH-1544 is ideal for jobs that require moving heavy loads over a long distance, repeatedly," says Holdridge. "A powershift transmission, paired with an optimized engine, reduces the risk of overheating and eliminates the need for cooling breaks on large jobsites."

In our recent telehandler market guide, we highlighted how data centers, energy projects, and infrastructure work increasingly require machines that can quickly transport large quantities of material across big sites, then do some height work. The GTH-1544 is ideal for that.

Where does the GTH-1544 fit in the Genie lineup?

The GTH-1544 sits at the top of Genie’s 44-foot pick-and-carry family. Genie’s current 44-foot pick-and-carry lineup includes:

  • GTH-1044: 10,000-pound max lift capacity
  • GTH-1244: 12,000-pound max lift capacity
  • GTH-1544: 15,000-pound max lift capacity

All three models share the same 44-foot, 7-inch lift height and 30-foot, 7-inch forward reach. The difference is carrying capacity. The new GTH-1544 raises the ceiling considerably, offering 10,000 pounds of capacity at maximum height and 5,000 pounds at maximum reach. That represents a substantial jump over the GTH-1244, which provides 8,000 pounds at maximum height and 4,000 pounds at maximum reach. For fleet managers, that means more material moved per trip and maybe fewer machine cycles throughout a shift. Just saying.

GTH-1544 tech and cab are focused on productivity

The GTH-1544 utilizes a chassis with “proportional frame leveling,” which allows operators to pick and place loads on side slopes up to 10 degrees. Limited-slip differentials on both axles help maintain traction in rough terrain conditions. Genie says the cab boasts 360 degrees of visibility, a multifunction joystick that controls boom and travel functions, and an updated gauge cluster that improves visibility of machine info.

Available options and equipment include:

  • Backup camera
  • Load Moment Indicator (LMI)
  • Expanded fork and carriage options
  • Standard lifting shackle for rigging applications

“Not all 10K, 12K or 15K machines are created equal. Choosing the right configuration for the job can significantly improve efficiency, reduce unnecessary machine complexity and increase overall productivity,” says Holdridge.

Genie 360 connects the ownership experience

Since we’re discussing Genie, let me take a second to mention its broader push into fleet management. Earlier this month, Genie launched Genie 360, a digital ecosystem that combines telematics, service information, training resources, warranty tools, and fleet management into a single platform. The goal is to give owners, technicians, and fleet managers one place to find, well, everything. If you missed it, check out our recent coverage of Genie 360 and how the company is trying to eliminate dashboard overload for equipment fleets.
