Caterpillar D9 Crawler Dozer

Sept. 9, 2020

The Caterpillar D9 dozer replaces the D9T dozer with productivity gains of up to 3 percent in cost per unit of material moved. The Tier 4-F Cat C18 engine delivers 440 net horsepower at 1,750 rpm. Operating weight is 110,225 pounds. Blade capacity with a semi-universal blade is 17.8 cubic yards.

Differential steering on the Caterpillar D9 dozer enables a tight turning radius and the ability to maintain ground speed while turning. The suspended undercarriage delivers more track contact with the ground for less slippage and greater productivity than the D9T.

Various blades and attachments enable the Caterpillar D9 dozer to work in production dozing, site maintenance, fleet support, and ripping.

Caterpillar D9 dozer design improvements

Design improvements include a frame that absorbs and withstands high-impact shock loads and a newly integrated AutoLube system. Extended filter change intervals, simple component removal, and continuous fluid level monitoring also aid in further lowering operating costs, according to the company.

A new ground-level service center provides convenient access to the engine shutdown switch, access/egress lighting, and optional powered ladder operation. Standard rearview mirrors give the operator clear lines of sight to front and rear working areas.

The new cab design features intuitive controls that are easy to access and operate. The suspended undercarriage reduces shock load transfer by as much as 50 percent to the undercarriage, resulting in a smoother and more comfortable ride. Large, high-definition touchscreen displays and new electronic architecture is scalable to meet the customer’s technology needs.

Technology includes Product Link Elite and Vital Information Management System. Optional technology includes Automated Blade Assist and Cat AutoCarry, and Automatic Ripper Control.

The D9 Caterpillar bulldozer will be available in the fourth quarter of 2020.
