Caterpillar 352 Excavator

Oct. 29, 2020

The 110,500-pound 352 Caterpillar excavator replaces the 352F with Next Generation upgrades. The 425-horsepower crawler excavator digs to 23 feet 1 inch and has a maximum loading height of 24 feet 3 inches. A long-reach configuration provides 64 feet of reach and dig depth of 43 feet. It has variable gauge undercarriage.

A long-reach configuration, Cat 352 LRE, will reach to 64 feet and dig to 43 feet. Standard waterproof technology allows excavation to 15 feet, and an optional submarine solution goes to 66 feet. It has high wide undercarriage and extra counterweight.

Factory-installed, standard technology on the excavator includes Grade with 2D, Cat Payload, Lift Assist, and E-Fence. It can be upgraded to Cat Grade with Advanced 2D or Cat Grade with 3D.

Smart Mode automatically matches engine and hydraulic power to digging conditions, enabling the Caterpillar excavator to deliver up to 10 percent more fuel efficiency and 45 percent more operating efficiency than its predecessor. Engine speed automatically lowers when hydraulic demand diminishes.

The cooling system features a new on-demand fan designed to operate only when required, saving fuel and ensuring maximum efficiency. The new electrohydraulic control system has a main control valve that eliminates the need for pilot lines, reduces pressure losses, and lowers fuel consumption.

Maintenance costs on the 352 could be up to 15 percent less than those of the 352F, because of extended and synchronized maintenance intervals. The new Cat air filter with an integrated pre-cleaner and primary and secondary filters provides double the dust-holding capacity of the previous design. The new Cat hydraulic return filter has a 3,000-hour service life, 50 percent more than previous filters. Fuel system filters are synchronized for service at 1,000 hours, a 100-percent increase. The fuel system’s water and sediment drains and hydraulic system’s oil level check are positioned close together at ground level, making routine daily maintenance faster, easier, and safer.

Next Gen excavators offer a Deluxe cab, including performance-enhancing features like keyless pushbutton start, large touchscreen monitor with jog dial keys for control, and a sound-suppressed rollover protective structure (ROPS).
