Bobcat to Expand Excavator Lineup with E145

Oct. 15, 2019

Bobcat is expanding its excavator range to include a 14-metric-ton model, the new E145. The E145, says Bobcat, features a reduced-tail-swing design and is suited for heavy digging and lifting operations on commercial and residential building sites, underground utility applications, and road and bridge projects. The rationale behind the larger E145, says the company, is that it “complements the performance of 700- and 800-frame-size Bobcat compact track and skid steer loaders owned by many Bobcat customers who routinely use both a 14-metric-ton excavator with smaller excavators on construction job sites.”

The E145 features a turbocharged Perkins, non-DPF engine rated at 115 horsepower and a hydraulic system designed, says the company, to deliver reliable, steady digging and lifting power, as well as high slewing torque for swinging uphill and backfilling. Four selectable power modes allow E145 operators to adapt the machine to the work at hand, says Bobcat, and a power-boost button temporarily increases hydraulic power for breaking through hard ground. An optional dozer blade is designed for improved digging stability, for leveling ability on uneven surfaces, and for backfilling.

The D-channel design of the E145’s upper-structure frame adds strength to better withstand side impacts and to protect machine components, says Bobcat, and wear-resistant wear plates at the attachment connecting pins eliminate side play for extended service intervals on bucket pin-up points. Major pin joints on the boom and arm are castings, and reinforced cast-steel pin bosses are designed to provide added strength. Track links are permanently sealed, and the new model is available with either steel or rubber track pads. Drive motors are recessed within the track width to protect against job-site hazards.

The pressurized cab features a seamless, sound-isolating seal to keep sound levels low inside the cab, and sound isolation reduces external noise. The large cabin provides enhanced visibility, says Bobcat, and operator-comfort features include an air-suspension seat, premium heating/air-conditioning system, 7-inch LCD monitor screen, and standard rearview and sideview cameras.

Serviceability features include an automatic tensioner for the engine-accessory drive belt, and large service panels facilitate access to the top side of the engine. A hinged belly pan allows access from the bottom. Solid-steel side panels provide access to regular daily maintenance items, and centralized grease banks are reached from ground level. In addition, several features help protect the machine from theft or vandalism, including passcode protection, master battery disconnect, lockable panels, and lockable fuel-fill points.

The E145 is available with an optional hydraulic coupler to accept a range of buckets and hydraulic breakers. Plumbing for the coupler is standard, and the auxiliary hydraulic system allows one-way and two-way flow. The travel system provides options, including lock in low range, lock in high range, or automatic.
