When to use a combination roller

Beyond key machine specs
June 8, 2023

The key specifications for a combination roller are similar to those used to specify a double-drum compactor: Weight, rolling width, vibration frequency, amplitude, and total centrifugal force must satisfy the specific compaction applications for which the roller is used.

But beyond consideration of these key machine specifications, equipment managers must also pay attention to asphalt mat and job site specifications.

Editor Rod Sutton talked with two product specialists for insight into how a fleet can determine when a combination roller—or combi roller—provides a solution to asphalt pavement compaction.

Joining Sutton on this interview are Tim Kowalski of Hamm and Brad Belvin of Sakai.
