The latest in underground construction technology was in the spotlight in Atlanta recently during the 2008 Underground Construction Technology International Conference and Exhibition, held at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta.

Among the highlights of the four-day event was a broad lineup of educational sessions and seminars covering a variety of topics of interest to the underground utility construction and rehabilitation markets. Various seminars explored different aspects of sewer and water rehabilitation technologies, sewer construction and rehabilitation, quality assurance/quality control for cured-in-place pipe (CCIP) installations, pipebursting, water infrastructure, asset management, HDD operations, underground utilities construction and rehabilitation, and trenchless technology.

Another highlight of the conference was RehabZone, a unique display designed to educate attendees about the growing need for rehabilitation of the world's underground utility infrastructure, while providing information about the various innovative technologies now available to accomplish that task. Staffed by industry professions including consulting engineers, contractors and representatives of municipalities and manufacturers, RehabZone was a "no-sell" zone which allowed attendees to linger over the exhibits and gain not only generic information about particular technologies but also learn how such technologies could be applied to their specific needs. RehabZone was sponsored by the National Association of Sewer Service Companies (NASSCO) in cooperation with ASCE's Technical Committee on Trenchless Installation of Pipelines, Water Environmental Federation's Collections Committee, and Underground Construction magazine.

The conference also featured an extensive trade show, providing conference participants with the opportunity to get first-hand looks at some of the latest in equipment and services for the underground construction and rehabilitation industry.
