Strunk said that Stinnett’s body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, where the cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma.
The wreck took place near the Foley’s Body and Frame Shop business.
Kentucky State Police Assistant Public Affairs Officer Cory Jones said that the wreck took place between Stinnett’s Ram pickup truck and two dump trucks.
“Preliminary investigation shows that the Ram was traveling northbound (on U.S. 27), crossed into the southbound lane for unknown reasons, and collided with the two dump trucks,” Jones stated.
He said the pickup hit the first dump truck broadside, then hit the second truck head on.
Jones said that the drivers of both dump trucks were taken to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for treatment, but that both suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The dump trucks were being operated by Ron Eldridge Excavating, which made a statement on social media saying that both drivers had received some broken bones and stitches.
“Sadly, the driver of the pickup did not survive. Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the post stated.
The post went on to say, “I am extremely proud of how [the drivers] reacted in such a tragic and high pressure situation. There was absolutely nothing either of them could have done to avoid the accident, and yet they did everything right in the moment. I am thankful for the way they handled something no one ever wants to face.”
Trooper Jones said that departments responding to the scene of the wreck included KSP, KSP’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement division, the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office, Somerset-Pulaski County EMS, the Eubank Fire Department, the Science Hill Fire Department, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office and the Somerset-Pulaski County Special Response Team.
