New Hampshire will pay more for rented snow equipment

DOT will raise its rates for private rental snow equipment.

New Hampshire will raise the rental rates it charges private contracted winter maintenance equipment in response to driver shortages. According to a report in New Hampshire Bulletin, the rate boost is expected to by 15%, or about $1.3 million that the state Department of Transportation will have to pay for rental.

Last year, the DOT rented 268 snow plow trucks but said it needed 367. Officials said the situation will delay snow-plowing frequency and extend periods of “degraded driving conditions,” according to the report.

Officials compared New Hampshire’s rental rates with surrounding states. Massachusetts rates were 64% to 136% higher, according to the report, and local municipalities in New Hampshire were also paying more to rent snow-removal equipment.
