The Hammerhead Impactor, distributed by Vermeer, combines pneumatic bursting and HDD to reduce set-up time. It also alleviates the need for long compressor hoses to run through existing pipe as in conventional bursting. A compressor produces air, which is then pumped through the drill stem to the Air Impactor, attached like a common backreamer. Used with the D24x40A and D33x44 Navigator drills, the tool delivers 500 blows per minute. Estimated price: $22,500 to $33,200.
