UPDATE: Officials in Atlanta have lifted the evacuation order that left hundreds homeless after a tower crane accident shut down multiple blocks. All roadblocks and detours have been removed, as well.

A counterweight detached from a tower crane in Atlanta and fell onto an apartment building, causing the evacuation of residents in about 1,000 apartments, according to news reports.

The area around the accident site has been closed off while officials determine how and when to dismantle the crane, which was also damaged by the falling counterweight. Contractor Balfour Beatty Construction, in a statement, said the crane has been stabilized. Maxim LP is also working on the project.

Four workers were injured by flying debris.
