Construction mishap disrupts Seattle rail service

May 2, 2023

Users of the light rail in Seattle face two weeks of disruptions caused when street-level construction punctured the roof of the tunnel at the Westlake station.

The rail through the area will be down to one track, causing southbound and northbound trains to be delayed. Passengers can transfer to trains for a quicker trip.

The closure is necessary to allow management of the train line to investigate the damage caused when a construction crew attempting to remove a clock at street level broke through the roof of the tunnel, according to the manager Sound Transit. Examination of the damage showed that it was more significant than originally thought, necessitating the emergency service disruption for the safety of passengers.
