We're celebrating a publishing milestone this year: 2005 is the twenty-fifth consecutive year in which Construction Equipment has won at least one award recognizing editorial excellence. "Buying File," written by Larry Stewart, executive editor, and Walt Moore, senior editor, were honored by both the American Society of Business Press Editors and the Trade, Association and Business Publications International. This column also received recognition by ASBPE.
Put in perspective, the magazine is 56 years old. As we considered the significance of this 25-year run, we realized that it rests on the tradition at Construction Equipment to provide the most useful information in the best manner possible. From in-depth journalistic research to informative graphics to trend analysis, our editorial staff has endeavored to serve our readers first.
That consistent, year-after-year excellence is the rock on which we've built our editorial house. In the early 1980s, Construction Equipment described the crisis in infrastructure and called for specific solutions in its "Rebuilding America" series. We won numerous editorial awards and garnered recognition from industry groups, too. When the Internet became a viable business tool, we created a website dedicated to online research for equipment buyers. We've won three awards for our website. The crown jewel for business publications is the Jesse H. Neal awarded by American Business Media. Construction Equipment won its first Neal the year after Ronald Reagan gained the White House. Since then, ABM has recognized this magazine nine times.
Of course, the writers and editors over the years have appreciated the recognition. But each award only confirmed our primary goal: to communicate valuable information to the men and women who manage this nation's fleet of construction equipment. At the end of the day, the plaques don't mean a thing if our readers aren't able to take something away from our pages or website.
