Top 100: Super-Speedy Quik-Trac

Sept. 28, 2010

The most distinguishing feature of the new American Augers/Astec Underground 48-900G2 boring machine, says the manufacturer, is its Quik-Trac fast-return system. The system uses a rack-and-pinion drive that permits the machine to move quickly away from the casing without the assist of other equipment, such as winches. This saves time when the machine must be pulled back, for example, to add auger sections or to check grade. Plus, the Quik-Trac system has 10,000 pounds of push/pull power to further speed operations, such as pushing pipe. Estimated list price: $115,000.
