Top 100: Serious Trenching on Tires

Sept. 28, 2010

The HM2500 chain trencher is unique in its size (38,000 pounds) and horsepower (425) class, says Hydramaxx, because it is mounted on rubber tires. Tires, versus tracks, says Hydramaxx, provide enhanced mobility, tighter trenching turns and lower maintenance costs. The machine, which digs to depths of 7 feet and to widths of 22 inches, has an automatic self-leveling feature that allows vertical trenching on slopes, and an automatic load-control system for adjusting trenching speed to varying conditions. Estimated list price: $275,000.
