Top 100: Construction Scraper Tractor Is No Plow Horse

Sept. 28, 2010

Pull-type scrapers are typically hitched to farm tractors, and Bell's list of the key features of its 4206D Construction Scraper Tractor clearly suggests the plow pullers aren't up to the job. The 4206D is based on the top of the Bell (and Deere and Hitachi) ADT line, with a 413-hp Mercedes V6 diesel that reaches 1,453 foot-pounds of torque. The tractor complies with construction and mining safety standards with emergency steering, braking, and certified ROPS/FOPS cab. The articulation joint is designed specifically to haul loads at speed off road. Heavy-duty Eaton differentials and six-speed automatic Allison are common construction choices, and the Allison provides for lock-up in every gear. Fenders all around preserve the operator's visibility. Estimated price: $200,000 to $250,000.
