EPA rule may dampen renewable fuel options

The lower-then-expected mandated volumes for production of biofuels may cause producers to pull back on plans to build facilities focused an meeting the demand for the carbon-reducing product, according to analysts quoted in the Wall Street Journal.

Renewable diesel is a viable option for diesel engines used in construction equipment and trucks, and demand for the fuel has been increasing in recent years, prompting producers to ramp up.

The Journal cited analysts who say the EPA move could “upend a raft of projects that were expected to more than double production capacity of renewable diesel.”
