Staker Parson Offers Hands-On Experience with Job Shadow Day

Feb. 19, 2019

Staker Parson hosted four students attending the Utah Diesel Technician Pathways (UDTP) program,  which aims to improve the quality of technicians through guided job-shadowing.

The students met at Staker Parson’s Ogden, Utah, maintenance  shop to job-shadow Brian Barker, a 15-year Staker Parson mechanic, and gain hands-on equipment experience.

“It’s great to be able to bring the students to our shop and see their eyes just light up with excitement. We were able to show them some of our equipment and the normal repairs we make. I think they really enjoyed seeing all the different things we have to offer,” Barker said in a press release. “We have a great shop, up-to-date equipment, new technology, and we train people. What more could you ask for?”

UDTP started in January 2019, and plans on offering its services to more schools by April 2019.

“Diesel mechanics encompasses so many different things, from trains to trucks, as well as heavy equipment,”  Joe Allen, equipment manager for Northern Utah, said in a press release. “If you crave variety, that’s what we do in our shop.”
