Ready-Mixed Concrete Association Holds Convention

The Wisconsin Ready-Mixed Concrete Association's 2008 convention included education, networking and a simulated radio show.

Phill Domask claimed concrete is not a commodity; Dave Gorwitz discussed collection issues in the industry; Penny Giles focused on the importance of customers and how to communicate effectively; Jon Hansen examined the many green aspects of concrete; and OES co-chairs Justin Kratochvil and Rick Nesbit discussed safety in the workplace.

The event also included a luncheon with legislators.

Twenty-five category winners were recognized during the 29th Annual WRMCA Concrete Design Awards co-sponsored by AON Risk Corp., GRT Admixtures and ACI-Wisconsin Chapter.

The awards were presented in a ceremony sponsored by Champion Inc., County Materials Corporation, GeoTest, Green Valley Ready Mix, Illinois/Wisconsin Cement Company, Meyer Material, The Phill Domask Consultancy, Verrette Materials, Wingra Redi-Mix, and WR Grace.

Shawn Triller was sworn in as the incoming president. Other executive committee members for 2008 include: Bob Peters, vice president; Gary Benjamin, secretary/treasurer; and Mark Guenterberg, past president.

New board members installed at the convention included: Brad Oertel, Wisconsin Cement; Howard Neeck, Neeck Concrete Products LLC; Steve Verrette, Verrette Materials; and Roger Volden, Holcim.

The WRMCA's 59th annual convention will be held March 15-18, 2009, in Pensacola Beach, Fla.
