Miller Awards $5,000 Scholarship to Welding Student

Miller Electric has selected Dalton Van, a skilled welder and senior at Union High School in Roosevelt, Utah, as the winner of the Weld-Mask Scholarship Sweepstakes. After purchasing a Weld-Mask compact auto-darkening lens and submitting his entry form, Van was chosen to receive a $5,000 scholarship toward his welding education.

The $5,000 Weld-Mask Scholarship is part of the Miller Building a Welder program. The initiative focuses on introducing individuals to welding as a career option.

Van has been taking night welding classes at UBTech since his sophomore year. He represented the school at the National Leadership and Skill Conference (SkillsUSA) in Louisville, Kentucky, where he earned a silver medal in the welding competition. He also qualified for the 2019 national competition this June. he will graduate in the spring with a high school diploma, and a 990 advanced welding certificate.

“This is why the scholarship means so much to me,” Van said in a press release. “I don’t know that I could afford secondary schooling without the help of scholarships.”
