Link-Belt 298 HSL lattice-boom crawler crane

Sept. 28, 2010

The all-new Link-Belt 298 HSL lattice-boom crawler crane has a rated lift capacity of 230 tons, providing an intermediate step in capacity between the company’s 200-ton 248 HYLAB 5 and its 300-ton 348 HYLAB 5. This new crane, says Link-Belt, is a candidate for replacing the large number of aging 230-ton-capacity crawlers in fleets around the world. The 298 HSL delivers 55,000 pounds of maximum line pull and a maximum line speed of 525 feet per minute. Tubular-type lattice booms are available in lengths from 60 to 300 feet, and a 90-foot jib (with offsets of 5, 15 and 25 degrees) also is available. A 270-foot boom combines with the 90-foot jib to yield the machine’s maximum tip height of 365.5 feet. According to Link-Belt, the 298 HSL’s main-unit transport weight is 88,000 pounds. A patent-pending counterweight-removal system handles the crane’s 160,000 pounds of upper counterweight and, says the company, allows blended load-outs.
