Newest additions to the John Deere G-Series motor grader line are the 620G/GP and 622G/GP, using a Tier 4-Final John Deere 6.8-liter engine (rated at 215 and 225 horsepower, respectively, and designed, says the company, for municipalities and contractors preferring lighter, more fuel-efficient machines. Dual-joystick configuration is an option for all Grade Pro (GP) models, as are ripper-stow automation, courtesy lighting, and an updated high-resolution rearview monitor. (Control choices also include conventional mechanical levers and GP “fingertip” levers; all control configurations include the steering wheel.) Operating weights are 40,350 and 42,060 pounds, respectively.

According to Deere, an engine Eco mode, standard on all John Deere graders, helps optimize fuel usage, decreasing operating costs by an additional 5 to 10 percent, compared with the larger 670G and 672G models. The new dual-joystick option, says Deere, provides intuitive control for operators who prefer joystick controls to the standard “antler rack,” and also eliminates the need to twist controls for blade circle or articulation.

The John Deere G-Series features eight models (620G/GP, 622G/GP, 670G/GP, 672G/GP, 770G/GP, 772G/GP, 870G/GP, 872G/GP) with net-horsepower ratings ranging from 215 to 300. Four of the units—622G/GP, 672G/GP, 772G/GP and 872G/GP—feature six-wheel drive, which says the company, results in a 30-percent increase in blade pull.

Also, an “open-architecture” design allows customers to use any brand of grade-control system. GP models are factory-equipped with bulkhead connectors, sensor mounts, electrical wiring harnesses, integrated controls, and moldboard mast mounts. Machines can be equipped at the factory with Topcon-, Trimble-, or Leica-ready kits to facilitate field installation. All GP models come standard with automated cross-slope.
