JLG 1850SJ Telescoping Boom Lift Platform

Feb. 27, 2014

According to JLG, its new1850SJ Ultra Series boom lift delivers 19 stories of working height, allowing access to applications previously reserved for truck-mounted booms. The new model has a platform height of 185 feet, a reach of 80 feet, and a maximum capacity of 1,000 pounds. The boom extends from ground to full height in less than five minutes, the company says. A telescopic jib extends and retracts to provide additional reach, as well as to provide up-and-over capability and the ability to telescope into and around structures in various applications.

The boom lift uses a 99.8-horsepower diesel engine and is designed with standard four-wheel drive, standard four-wheel steer, and drive speeds to 2.8 mph. The machine also features axles that retract for transport, with an extended-axle inside turning radius of 7 feet 7 inches. Gradeability is rated at 40 percent. Although an over-weight permit is required for transporting the 60,300-pound 1850SJ, it can be moved on highways between job sites without an oversized permit.

An updated LCD display on the platform provides a graphic display of the operator’s position in the work envelope, assisting with more precise positioning, and the display also keeps the operator informed about service codes, engine status, fuel levels, diagnosis, and troubleshooting. Serviceability and operational benefits extend beyond the new LCD display, says the company, including operation and control layouts that are similar to all other JLG booms, facilitating training.
