Truck Hits Paving Equipment on Highway 101 in California

No injuries were reported but a fuel leak triggered a hazmat response.

A portion of Highway 101 was closed in Pismo Beach late Monday night after a semi-truck crashed into construction equipment along the road.

According to the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) traffic incident page, a truck hit a piece of Roadtec paving equipment owned by Granite Construction just after the Price Street off-ramp.

The semi-truck sustained major damage in the crash and diesel fuel began leaking onto the road.

A hazmat response was called out to the scene to deal with the leak, which was in both the No. 1 and No. 2 lanes, according to the CHP log.

All southbound lanes of the highway were closed due to the emergency response. No injuries were reported in the crash.

All lanes of Highway 101 were reopened as of Tuesday morning, the CHP said.
