Sometimes you need to break stuff on purpose. Test its limits. How does it react in real-world environments? To freezing temperatures? Dust? Rental operators? Kubota Tractor Corp. has a plan to push its construction equipment harder, run it longer, and maybe see what breaks. The company just broke ground on a new construction equipment test center in Salina, Kansas. The $30 million investment expands Kubota’s U.S.-based engineering, testing, and product development for its growing line of off-highway equipment. The new 57,000-sq-ft facility will support all types of development cycles and the expansion of “local field-validated performance.” From that same press release:

“This investment reflects Kubota’s confidence in the North American construction market and our commitment to engineering machines that are built for the realities of North American jobsites,” said Brian Arnold, General Manager of Kubota’s North America Manufacturing Unit. “Bringing expanded testing and validation capabilities to the U.S. strengthens our supply chain, accelerates development, and ensures we deliver high performing compact equipment our customers can count on, supported by a strong dealer network focused on service, parts availability, and keeping customers productive on the job.”

Kubota established its Construction Equipment Research and Development North America  operation (CERDNA) in Salina in 2021. This new facility is the next phase.

What will the new Kansas test center do?

This test center will focus on Kubota’s compact construction equipment. That means mini excavators, compact track loaders, skid steers, mini track loaders, and more. According to the press release, the facility “will enable rigorous performance, durability, and reliability testing under controlled, repeatable conditions that replicate real-world construction applications.” The building design will be executed by Great Plains Mfg., a Kubota subsidiary, which houses the company’s attachment brand Land Pride and is based in Salina. From the press release:

“This expansion is a clear statement of Kubota’s long-term commitment to investing in America and growing our compact construction business here,” said Todd Stucke, President of Kubota North America. “Kansas has been a strong partner, and the Salina facility will play a critical role as we continue to expand our construction equipment portfolio and support customers across North America.”

A quick look at Kubota’s Hometown Grant Program

Kubota also recently launched the latest round of its Kubota Hometown Proud program. The initiative awards 10 grants each year. Each grant includes $25,000 in cash and a $25,000 equipment voucher. Applications run through May 7, 2026. Nonprofits within 50 miles of an authorized Kubota dealer can apply. Winners get funding and equipment support for community projects. Past projects include:

  • Parks, trails, and community green spaces
  • Agricultural education centers
  • Community gardens and public recreation projects
  • Rodeo arenas and youth sports facilities

The program spans all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Alaska, Hawaii, and — new for 2026 — Puerto Rico. Grant winners will be announced in September. A related national sweepstakes also launches May 8, giving individuals a chance to win Kubota equipment.

Final thoughts

Kubota’s Kansas test center and community grants tell a similar story. The company is investing in both machine and community support.
