Bridge Demo’d with Perfection
A 55-year-old bridge in Germany went down in a perfectly executed demolition relying on planning and placement of shaped explosives, according to InterestingEngineering.com. Watch the demolition below.
The task took about 265 pounds of explosives, which were positioned in places of static equilibrium. The report defined that as “points where gravity works to cancel out forces meeting head-on.”
With gravity doing the work, engineers expected the rubble to land in a specific area in the valley below and leave the adjoining replacement bridge untouched by the falling debris.
It worked.
