UCI, based in Wichita, KS, has won a prestigious first place 2008 Design-Build National Project of the Year award from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). The award was granted for the city of Wichita Taste & Odor Improvements project, and was presented at the DBIA national conference in Las Vegas. The first place award in the DBIA national competition was for a water/wastewater project under $15 million category. The scope for the winning project was to eliminate the musty taste and odor of Wichita water caused by periodic algae blooms in the Cheney Reservoir. The UCI team was composed of Earth Tech Inc., Bollyky & Associates, Mechanical Systems Inc., Professional Engineering Consultants, Atlas Electric, and Price Brothers Inc. In accepting the award, Chuck Grier, president and CEO, said, “The collective efforts of the UCI team produced unprecedented design and construction practices in the water treatment industry. We were delighted to meet all the goals given us by the city of Wichita, and to bring this internationally recognized project in on-time and under budget.”
