A leading international provider of construction information solutions, Reed Construction Data announced October 3 that it has partnered with RCMS Group, an innovator in providing building information modeling (BIM) services to the building design and construction market.
The agreement is primarily intended to promote the creation and distribution of intelligent building content to the AEC community, including building product manufacturers, architects, general contactors, and subcontractors. For this partnership, both companies are focused on creating content and building models for the Autodesk® platform, and specifically Revit, which allows an architect to use the content in both the conceptual stage and the design process.
"There is roughly $400 billion in new, nonresidential development under way in the United States each year, with about $15 billion of that allocated for building design. Given the size of the market and the relatively early stage of BIM adoption, the opportunities to grow the BIM market are significant," according to Iain Melville, CEO of Reed Construction Data.
"This partnership is important to both companies because we share a clear vision for the future of the building design and construction industry. That future clearly includes BIM," said Melville. "We look forward to combining Reed's industry-leading information services with RCMS Group's service-driven BIM modeling expertise."
Reed Construction Data, as part of Reed Business Information, brings to the partnership North America's largest business-to-business information resources, with more than 80 market-leading publications, 55 websites and a range of leading business-to-business services. RCMS Group, with its offices in Atlanta and India, brings innovative and value-added BIM services that include:
- Creation of BIM content for building product manufacturers
- Conversion of completed 2-D construction drawings to 3-D BIM models
- Development of Architectural BIM models working with architects, structural and MEP consultants
- Development of "Builders" BIM model for general contractors
- Creation of quantity take-offs from BIM models for general contractors
- Detection of collisions and clashes within BIM models for general contractors
"It makes a lot of sense for us to partner with a company that clearly gets the advantages of BIM and its place in the future of our industry," said KP Reddy, CEO, RCMS Group. "RCD has a clear strategy to embed building design and product content into the architect's workflow in addition to creating value downstream for general contractors, and we are the perfect partner to help make that happen."
