Foxconn’s Wisconsin Deal to Resume Manufacturing Plant Plans

Feb. 5, 2019

After Foxconn changed plans for its first U.S. plant in Wisconsin’s Racine County—saying it would build a research and development facility over creating a manufacturing plant—the company has returned to its original plans following a phone call with President Trump.

Last week, Foxconn Chairman Terry Gou said the company has “no place in the U.S.” in terms of TV manufacturing. However, after a “productive” discussion with the president, Market Watch says the plans will continue as they had previously.

“After productive discussions between the White House and the company, and after a personal conversation between President Donald J. Trump and Chairman Terry Gou, Foxconn is moving forward with our planned construction of a Gen 6 fab facility, which will be at the heart of the Wisconn Valley Science and Technology Park,” the company said in a statement.

The company has promised a $10 billion investment and up to 13,000 jobs at the Racine County site.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the Lake County Board last summer urged Wisconsin to reconsider environmental regulations after massive flooding caused an estimated $10.7 million in damage. According to the report, Lake County officials said 244 homes sustained major damage and another 2,985 were damaged less severely.

Market Watch said Gou has a history of making and breaking promises about investments, and hiring in many countries around the world.
