'Super Compact' Arrives on Scene

Described by JLG as its "super compact" telehandler, the new G5-18A was rolled out in December 2007. With a maximum lifting capacity of 5,500 pounds, the G5-18A has a 1,850-pound lift capacity at the fully extended forward reach of nearly 11 feet. Powered by an 84-horsepower Perkins diesel engine, the telehandler combines hydrostatic transmission, four-wheel drive, and a choice of three steering modes for a minimum turning radius of 126 inches. Beyond machine specifications, JLG focused on operator comfort and extended service intervals in the design of the new machine.

Telehandler Uses Bob-Tach System

The fourth and most compact model in the Bobcat VersaHandler product line, the 75-horsepower V417 was introduced in late 2007. Offering maximum load capacity of 4,400 pounds and maximum lift height of 17 feet, the V417 is the first of what Bobcat calls its telescopic tool carriers to offer the Bob-Tach attachment mounting system, bringing Bobcat's heritage in compact machine technology to a telescopic boom. Select attachments for Bobcat large-frame skid-steer loaders, compact track loaders and all-wheel-steer loaders are approved for the V417's use.

Two Different Series Offer Compact Choices

With three different series of machines, Gehl offers a broad range of telescopic handlers for construction, industrial and agricultural needs. Even in the sub-6,000-pound market, two different series of Gehl machines provide a solution. Along with the CT5-16 and CT5-16 Turbo models established as part of the CT Series of "ground-engaging" compact telescopic loaders, Gehl kicked off 2007 with the introduction of a new, low-profile, sub-6,000-pound entry from the core RS Series of lift-and-carry machines. Measuring 76 inches in height, the RS5-19 offers 5,500 pounds of lift capacity and 19 feet 1 inch of lift height.

New model: RS5-19

Product-line features: Be it via the RS or CT series of machines, Gehl offers maneuverability for compact-telescopic-handler customers. The CT5-16, with 5,000 pounds of lift capacity and 16 feet 2 inches of lift height, similarly has a turning radius of less than 11 feet and overall height of less than 7 feet.

Redesigned Model Arrives This Quarter

To launch early in 2008, the redesigned GTH-5519 enhances Genie's lifting performance and serviceability in the compact telehandler market. Available with either a 63-horsepower Deutz or Perkins engine (with a Tier 3 Deutz available in the first quarter), the GTH-5519 offers 5,500 pounds of load capacity with maximum lift height of 18 feet 10 inches. A low stowed height of 76 inches and turning radius of 132 inches allows the machine to maneuver tight jobsites and, at just under 10,000 pounds, the GTH-5519 can be towed by a heavy-duty truck.
