Automotive shop class includes electric training.

George Washington High School is training students to work on electric vehicles in its auto repair course.

According to a report on CBS News Bay Area, Washington is the only high school in the state to offer an auto shop course, and students there are gaining experience with electric cars as well as traditional gas-powered vehicles.

Instructor Rich Del Rosso told the news outlet that students “have the opportunity to get into this starting of the electric vehicle phase….”

Tesla has donated a vehicle to the program, and students are learning how to work on the electric motors. Although electric vehicles need less maintenance, they operate with high voltages.
