Top 100: Reaching for 2004 Emissions
Sept. 28, 2010
International was exempt from emissions limits imposed on most diesel manufacturers October 1, but they were first to sell an engine with cooled exhaust-gas recirculation—the VT 365. In addition to EGR, the four-valve V8 that replaced the T 444E unveiled International's second-generation electro-hydraulic injection. And a variable-geometry turbocharger reduces turbo lag. It can be certified as a low-emission vehicle to meet Clean Fuel Fleet Vehicle requirements. Four ratings peak at 230 horsepower and 620 foot-pounds of torque. Estimated price for an International 4200 truck powered by a VT 365 engine: $36,000 to $40,000.
