Fleet managers. This is a nice little nugget to know. Kubota Engine America announced it’s extending its standard engine warranty from two years or 2,000 hours to three years or 3,000 hours. This is on top of the Kubota brand already having an impressive brand halo in the compact diesel sector.  For contractors running skid steers, track loaders, mini excavators, and other small off-highway iron, that extra year or 1,000 hours is a solid bonus. From the press release:

“Our engines are built to perform reliably over the long term, and this warranty extension reflects that confidence,” said Michael De Leonardis, Director of Service Engineering at Kubota Engine America. “By offering more coverage, we are helping customers focus on productivity and uptime, knowing their engine is backed by Kubota for more time and more hours.”

Three years or 3,000 hours covers the engine against manufacturing defects during normal use and service. If you rack up 1,200 hours per year on a compact excavator, you now get deeper coverage into year three. I could see this definitely making a difference at rental houses.

Where can I find and further study these engines?

Kubota Engine America supplies industrial diesel engines — primarily under 200 hp — to OEMs across construction, agriculture, turf, industrial equipment, power generation, and utility markets in North America. Kubota powers a massive slice of the compact equipment market. The company has built small, high-density diesel engines for decades. Kubota will spotlight the warranty extension and its engine lineup at Conexpo, March 3-7 in Las Vegas. Expect plenty of diesel talk in booth S80441.

Quick-hit diesel engine tips

  • Check engine oil level before startup.
  • Drain water from the fuel-water separator.
  • Inspect air filters in dusty conditions.
  • Look for coolant loss.
  • Scan for leaks, loose clamps, cracked hoses, and worn belts.
  • Do these every day. Make it muscle memory. Small habits prevent big repairs.
